Virtual Sessions - General Information:
Virtual Sessions are run on weekday evenings from 1800-2100, with a break for dinner at 1900-1930 and a 5-10 minute break around 2000 hours.
To ensure a smooth and on-time start to our virtual sessions, we kindly request that you set aside about 5 minutes before the scheduled session begins to log in and prepare. We understand that sometimes technology can be a bit tricky, so don’t hesitate to reach out if you need any assistance with Zoom. Simply email [email protected], and include your phone number and an Instructor or Terry will reach out to you.
Instructors include Ian, Jean, Wendy and Damien.
Session Dates and times for each individual course are as per our Calendar
Virtual Sessions - Assumed Knowledge:
Essential Navigation and Seamanship (ENS) is the entry level course. There is no prior assumed knowledge.
The Day Skipper Shorebased Theory (DSST) course assumes you have undertaken ENS and understand the basic terminology and concepts of navigation, terminology and collision regulations. While a brief review of ENS concepts are undertaken at the commencement of the DSST, they are not focused on in depth.
The RYA Coastal Skipper Shorebased Theory Course (CSST) is generally undertaken after successful completion of the RYA Day Skipper Shorebased Theory Course (DSST). We strongly recommend students have a good grasp of theory subjects to DSST level prior to attending the CSST course. Please see the CSST page for a more information on assumed knowledge for this course.
Virtual Sessions - What you need:
We strongly recommend you preview the relevant modules prior to the virtual session. In general, two modules are covered at each session.
Please ensure you have the following:
- Supporting course materials (these are required from Session 2 onwards, so you are able to commence virtual sessions prior to receipt of materials)
- A Computer or iPad with camera and microphone. Please note a phone is not recommended as the screen is too small)
- Turn your camera and microphone on – use headphones if you are in a noisy area
- Please mute on unless asking a question, as this reduces background noise
- We recommend you be in a quiet space, with room to spread out your materials
