Beginners Class

Bareboat Charter Skipper

Course Synopsis

Bareboat – Often heard in the hire/charter business – meaning you are the skipper and do not need a professional skipper.

The Bareboat Skipper or RYA Start Yachting course is over 2 days and 1 night , ideal after completing the Keelboat Skipper courses on the J24 yachts.

The sailing is the same, however, the major changes are helming with a tiller to helming with a wheel, the use of larger boat and its offshore safety gear, handing under power with use of a diesel engine.

The course will give you confidence and the knowledge to make the most of your sailing holiday. Your first holiday should be in your our own backyard, the Whitsundays, as it rates as one of the best sailing holiday destinations in the world. This two-day course will allow you to hire a yacht in the Whitsundays. The Whitsundays unlike any where else worldwide you can only sail during daylight hours.

The systems for anchoring, reefing, radio procedure etc will prepare you for a sailing holiday. It starts with an explanation of the cruising yacht from stem to stern and the familiarization and use of the equipment on board. You will anchor in a snug bay overnight in the Harbour and after a night navigation exercise you will sail out through the Heads as long as conditions allow. Option With the purchase of the RYA logbook this will ‘kickstart’  your International qualifications.
