Advance your passage planning skills with practical case studies and interactive lessons. This course will give you the skills to confidently read and interpret charts, understand weather and tides, and prepare and manage passages on your boat. It is a perfect framework for taking your boat on longer and bolder coastal adventures.
VHF RADIO COURSE
Learn how to use a VHF Radio so you are equipped to call for help in an emergency, communicate with other vessels at sea and understand how to use various safety equipment you may have onboard. There is also the option to sit an exam to get your marine radio licence, which is a legal requirement if you carry a marine VHF radio and if you need an MMSI number.
*Licence Fee $89 to OMC, Exam and practical session $100 excluded
The assessment for the radio licence is virtual and is booked through an online calendar inside the course. The assessment includes 25 online multiple-choice questions and a practical component, which is completed all completed online. The licence is issued by the Office of Maritime Communications (OMC) and is recognised by AMSA in Australia and internationally. The VHF licence is called the SROCP.
When you book your virtual assessment, there is a fee of $100 for the assessment, which is payable at the time of booking directly to the assessment organisation Above and Beyond Boating. The SROCP does not expire. The OMC charges an $89 fee for to mark the assessment and, if you are successful in your assessment, to issue your licence. The $89 is paid directly to the OMC after you book your assessment.
The Online Skipper Course will refine your practical skills and deepen your understanding of your own boat. The modular approach to online learning features lessons put together with interactive presentations, tutorial videos and review questions. You can use this course to develop your passage planning and preparation for adventures, understand and maintain the systems on your boat, and broaden your boat handling and sailing competencies.
