First Aid Courses
Marine First Aid or HLTAID011
Marine first aid is a specialised first aid training that focuses on first aid in an ocean environment, while HLTAID011 is the national standard for senior first aid.
- Marine First Aid – This course is designed for people who work on racing yachts, powerboats, or who enjoy remote leisure sailing. It focuses on first aid in an ocean environment and includes training in pain management and the use of arterial tourniquets.
- HLTAID011 Provide First Aid – This course provides first aid training including CPR.
Most yachtsmen and women undertake first aid training as a precaution against the inevitable accidents at sea, but in this training you are only taught how to stabilise a patient until the ambulance arrives.
If you are in a capital city in Australia, an ambulance is usually 11 minutes away. At sea off the Queensland coast, for example, using established Australian search and rescue services, the minimum response time for on site/medivac is three hours.
This training is mandatory for racing yachtsmen and highly recommended for all who venture offshore under power or sail.
